Patio season has arrived, and the season of relaxing outdoors, dining al fresco and soaking in sunshine and fresh air from the privacy and comfort of your own outdoor living space is now! When Spring first begins to "spring," it’s a good time to begin evaluating how you want to set up and decorate your patio space for the next few months.

If you know you plan to use your patio space frequently (and why wouldn’t you?), then it may be time to decide whether or not to upgrade your furnishings, add hanging plants or potted flowers, make changes to lighting and even bring some of your favorite interior decor outside.

The good news is that you can decorate your patio space simply and affordably, and stick to your budget while you’re at it. Choosing affordable plants, sale furnishings or repurposed furniture and simple, classic decor motifs as your guide, you can have your patio looking and feeling ready for Spring, Summer and early Fall!

Decorate your patio on a budget, and make the most of your gorgeous, cozy outdoor living space with these simple tips...

The easiest and least expensive way to decorate your outdoor space is with plants! Visit your nearby nursery or home improvement store and look for sale items that you can plant in hanging baskets and in decorative planters that you place on tables or the patio floor. You’ll instantly bring color and life to your space with even a couple of plants, and you can do it for less than $20!

Furnishing your patio tends to be the most expensive part of decorating, but it doesn’t have to be. Visit your nearby Target or Lowes and look for single piece items on sale (chairs and tables that don’t match are fine). If you come up empty-handed, head to a few nearby thrift stores and look for comfy chairs that can easily be primed and painted and put outdoors. Once you find a couple of chairs and a table at a discount, pick up new cushions at Target or Walmart, and you’ll have your space furnished for $100 or less!

Outdoor rugs can instantly transform an outdoor space and make it cozy, charming and more like an outdoor living room. You can find these online at discount sites like Overstock and Wayfair for under $50. Lowes, Target and Home Depot also carry affordable outdoor rugs that will complement your space perfectly without breaking your budget.

Decorative Items
Once you’re furnished and have your plants potted and hung, choose a few decorative items to bring outside. Do you want to keep any of your indoor frames, books, coasters or artwork on your patio? Make sure to choose items that won’t be damaged in bad weather or that are designed specifically for outside use.

Lighting/Setting the Mood
Now that your space is set, it’s time to consider lighting. Do you want to string white christmas lights around your balcony? String lights across the ceiling? Use LED candles or small, battery powered lamps? Choose lighting that will make you comfortable as you watch the sunset on warm, Summer nights, and your patio space will be complete!
